The belief of
bringing computer games in the class is changing, although tardily. Nowadays, a
computer game at classrooms of few schools does not attract a cold gaze from
the authorities. Schools that are ahead of the curve espouse game-based
learning; such a concept of learning can engage students in learning sessions
that are effused with fun. Most of the education games for kids have the support of technology. With the help of
technology, such games give an array of interactions as well as actions that a
child responds to.
Previous
thoughts on gaming and the paradigm shift
Earlier, a child playing games symbolized wasted
youth. Whether the game is played on console or online, it was looked down on
as a perfect way to fritter away ones time. However, the shift in such a way of
thinking took place once a research – carried out by Nesta Future lab – stated
that a sizable share of teachers has started using computer games such as jigsaw
puzzles for kids to improve the skills of the pupils. Jigsaw puzzles
improve the thinking ability and cognitive capacity of a child. There have been several ipad games for kids such as Sim City, where subtly the children learn geography and hone
their strategising skills. At present,
we are facing a generation that spends a huge share of money and time on
playing games on computers and other sleek, high-tech consoles.
Also, some games help in building social skills of
the child too. The games, which are played using WI-Fi, are believed to foster
sociality of the gamer. Other skills that are thought to be built inside a
child while playing games include multitasking, hand-eye coordination,
strategy management, and so forth.
Such a shift is here to stay and soon a time will
come when carrying gaming consoles inside a class will not be a blasphemy.
